I have seen the protesters marching in support of in defense of their basic human rights. I have seen them demonstrating for their basic human liberties. I have seen them confronting the police with their tactics of brutality and oppression. And it makes me think, Mr. President, that sometimes in the course of history the fate of one city defines the challenge of an entire generation. 50 years ago that city was Berlin. Today that city is Hong Kong.

我去過香港。我去過香港街頭。我看到示威者遊行去捍衛自己的基本人權。我看到他們展示出自己的基本自由。我看到他們面對警察的野蠻和壓迫。這讓我認為，總統先生，有時在歷史的過程中，一個城市的命運決定了整代人的挑戰。 50年前那個城市是柏林。今天那個城市是香港。
